Let's chalk that up to being a mental-problem, since he was formerly employed by the Yankees and he couldn't cut it when he was with them, so (later) he still can't get the job when pitching against them...

Of course, that's further reason why he's not suited to be on the Red Sox... and I don't want him here either. If he can't pitch against the Yankees, I don't want him!

I recall chats of LIL-LY! LIL-LY! sounding just like the RO-GER, RO-GER chants of old... and I have a memory that such a hometown advantage like that seemed to work against Lilly especially when he was in pinstripes. I surely don't recall Lilly being lights-out against the Sox, especially when he was a Yankee. Please correct me if the stats show otherwise.

Now, the stats DO show all as a good reason the Yanks might want to give him another try, despite that they basically gave up on him a few years back. Successive disappointing seasons caused that.

The fact that he has matured in Toronto is no reason the Sox should be interested. He still can't pitch against quality teams. And since he can't pitch well against the Sox, we shouldn't worry about him being employed by the Yankees or anyone else.

If he comes cheap, OK - that's Theo's call - but otherwise let NY have him. My call is that he's not worth a bid of any significant $$ considering what we've got coming our way from Japan!

-Tim (SoxSpot.com)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
